At Give2Get, we believe that your actions -- assisting at housing facilities for veterans, beautifying parks, and refurbishing schools -- speak louder than words.
But that doesn't mean we don't realize that giving is important too! This year for #GivingTuesday, Facebook has announced that it will again partner with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to match up to $2 million in donations. #GivingTuesday is November 28th.
#GivingTuesday, which launched in 2012, is a global day of giving positioned as a "do-good" alternative to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Donations made to participating nonprofit organizations through Facebook's charitable giving tools beginning at 8:00 am EST on November 28 will be matched — up to $50,000 per nonprofit, or $1,000 per fundraiser or donate button — until the matching funds run out. Facebook, in its own act of giving, announced that it will waive all fees for #GivingTuesday donations made with its tools during the day.
According to Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's COO, "When Henry Timms started Giving Tuesday in 2012, he hoped it would make a difference and change the world. Over the past five years, it’s done just that. “The secret sauce of Giving Tuesday has been community,” he said once. Henry’s right – there’s nothing more incredible than a community working together for good."
